People from Da Nang often say: coming here without eating Mì Quảng is like… not having set foot here. It's not an exaggeration – because Mì Quảng is not just a dish for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, but a part of the culture closely tied to farmers, fishermen, and the urban streets of Central Vietnam for hundreds of years. And among the many places worth trying, Mì Quảng Bà Vị at 155 Trưng Nữ Vương is where many diners call it “authentic Mì Quảng.”
The bowl of noodles here is served small and compact, with less broth but rich – that is the real Mì Quảng, unlike the “versions” that are flooded with water that tourists often encounter. The noodles are a creamy white mixed with a hint of yellow from turmeric, topped with bright red shrimp, slices of pork belly, quail eggs, crispy roasted peanuts, and fresh herbs. Chewing a piece of grilled sesame rice paper crumbled on top, you will understand why locals can eat Mì Quảng every morning without getting tired of it.
Bà Vị serves both chicken Mì Quảng, shrimp and pork, snakehead fish, and even a vegetarian version – any choice retains the natural sweetness of the broth and fresh turmeric. Prices range from 35,000 to 55,000 VND per bowl, surprisingly cheap for the standard of deliciousness in Da Nang. The shop opens early in the morning, around 6 AM to 11 AM is the busiest time, with local customers filling the plastic tables.
A suggestion for the perfect experience: squeeze in a piece of lime, add a few slices of green chili, and mix lightly so the sauce soaks into the noodles before eating. If you go in a group, just order one type for each person to share and taste all the flavors. After the bowl of noodles, a cup of salted coffee nearby or Cẩm Nam corn dessert will complete a perfect “Quang cuisine” morning.
Mì Quảng Bà Vị is not luxurious, does not have a sea view, but it has the most valuable thing: the taste of an authentic Da Nang, of the noodle carts in the small alleys that have nurtured many generations of the local people here.
