The Source Of The Cau River – The Birthplace Of The Legendary River Of The North.

Few people know that the poetic Cau River – a river associated with the famous Quan Ho melodies of the Kinh Bac region – originates from the pristine forests in the highlands of Cho Don, Bac Kan. In Phuong Vien commune, at the foot of the majestic Van On mountain range, the first springs from the peak of Phja Bjoóc have formed a small stream, marking the beginning of a nearly 290 km journey of one of the most important rivers in northern Vietnam.

The headstream of the Cau River originates from the south of the 1,578m high Phja Bjoóc peak, part of the Van On mountain range. From the rocky crevices among the pristine forests, the clear water flows through the cliffs, valleys, and ancient forests of Phuong Vien commune before merging into the Cau River.

From this source, the Cau River continues its journey through many localities, becoming an important water source for six northern provinces and an indispensable part of the cultural and economic life of the people in the midland and northern delta.
