Nang River – The legendary river in the vast Ba Be wilderness.

The Năng River is one of the most famous and beautiful rivers in Bắc Kạn province, considered a core tourist route in the journey to explore Ba Bể National Park. With its clear blue water year-round, the river winds through majestic limestone mountains and vast primeval forests, offering a beauty that is both wild and poetic.

Not only playing an important role in the lives of local people, the Năng River is also home to many famous scenic spots such as Puông Cave, Đầu Đẳng Waterfall, and Ba Bể Lake – destinations that have made Bắc Kạn's tourism brand.

The river flows through the mountains

The most special feature of the Năng River is the fascinating journey as the water flows through limestone mountains millions of years old.

Before flowing into Ba Bể Lake, the Năng River passes through the Lũng Nham limestone mountain, creating the famous Puông Cave. Rarely do tourists get to witness a river flowing through the heart of a mountain, forming a vast natural cave with a mysterious beauty like here.

The combination of water, mountains, primeval forests, and a rich ecosystem has created an impressive natural landscape, leaving anyone who sets foot here in awe.

Experience cruising on the Năng River

One of the most loved activities by tourists when visiting Ba Bể is taking a boat on the Năng River.

The journey usually starts from Buốc Lốm dock, where motorboats or tourist boats take visitors downstream along the emerald water. Along the route, steep rock cliffs appear on both sides, interspersed with small villages and lush corn fields of the local ethnic people.

The fresh air, the sounds of forest birds, and the calm water create a relaxing feeling, helping tourists temporarily forget the noisy daily life.

Discover the mysterious Puông Cave

Puông Cave is one of the most prominent highlights on the Năng River tourist route.

The cave is about 300m long and nearly 30m high, formed by the Năng River flowing through the Lũng Nham limestone mountain. Sitting on a boat entering the cave, visitors will clearly feel the grandeur of nature with its towering stone arches and unique stalactite formations.

Inside the cave is also home to thousands of bats of various species. When the light from the cave entrance reflects on the water's surface, the entire space becomes mystical and captivating.

Đầu Đẳng Waterfall – A symphony of water and stone

Leaving Puông Cave, tourists can continue their journey to Đầu Đẳng Waterfall – one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Bắc Kạn.

Located about 3km from Ba Bể Lake, this is where the Năng River is blocked by hundreds of large rocks, forming a waterfall system that stretches over 1,000m.

The water cascades over three consecutive rock tiers, creating a sound that echoes through the mountains and forests. During the flood season, the waterfall becomes incredibly majestic with white water columns splashing among ancient rocks.

Not only a famous scenic spot, the waterfall area is also home to many endemic fish species and a rich forest ecosystem.

The journey to Ba Bể Lake

After passing through Puông Cave and Đầu Đẳng Waterfall, the Năng River continues to merge into Ba Bể Lake – the largest natural freshwater lake in Vietnam located amidst limestone mountains.

The Năng River contributes to the abundant water source and diverse ecosystem for Ba Bể Lake. Therefore, many tourists liken the Năng River to the "source of life" for this famous lake area.

Boat trips from the Năng River to Ba Bể Lake always provide a complete experience of the natural beauty of Ba Bể National Park.

The green gem of Bắc Kạn tourism

The Năng River is not just a river but also a symbol of eco-tourism in Bắc Kạn.

From the majestic limestone cliffs, the mysterious caves to the emerald green waters winding through the vast forests, all have created an emotional exploration journey for tourists.

If Ba Bể Lake is likened to the heart of Bắc Kạn tourism, then the Năng River is the flow that carries the soul of this land. This is a must-visit destination for anyone who loves nature, exploration, and experiencing the pristine beauty of the Việt Bắc mountains and forests.
