Experience self-guided travel in Hue
If you are planning to visit Hue for the first time (or returning for the nth time), save this checklist to go for the "authentic" imperial city:
1) When is the best season to visit Hue?
March–August: beautiful sunshine, easy to visit tombs – Imperial City.
September–November: Hue in autumn, light rain mixed with sunshine, romantic atmosphere – quiet and less crowded.
2) How to get around in Hue
Rent a motorbike: 120k–150k/day (scooter) is the most convenient.
Taxi/Grab: for nearby points, save energy.
Cyclo: suitable for "slow living," enjoy the streets.
3) Where to stay?
I chose a room for about 550k/night (with breakfast), clean, convenient for travel. You can look for more homestays/hotels through review groups about Hue for more options.
4) Definitely try: rent traditional costumes for photos at the Imperial City 👘
Wearing traditional costumes in the Imperial City/tombs feels like "time travel" extremely enjoyable.
📍 Suggestion: Hoang Thanh Traditional Costume Shop – 136 Dang Thai Than (near the Imperial City)
Diverse costumes, clean and fragrant clothes, flexible rental, with photo concept suggestions.

5) Must-visit attractions 🏯
Imperial City (visit in the morning to avoid the sun and crowds)
Khai Dinh / Minh Mang / Tu Duc Tombs
Thien Mu Pagoda (enjoy beautiful sunsets)
Huong Thuy Xuan Village, An Dinh Palace
Truong Tien Bridge – Dong Ba Market – Quoc Hoc Hue – Phu Cam – Thuy Tien Lake
6) What to eat in Hue? 🍜
Beef noodle: Me Kéo, Lo Cui, Ba Nga
Banh beo/lok/nam: Ba Do, Banh Chi
Banh canh: O Buom, Ba Doi
Clam rice: Quan Thanh, Hoa Dong
Snacks: banh ep, che, banh mi, oc… (just see a crowd and boldly try 😄)
