I arrived at Balana Ha Giang on a very ordinary day. Not expecting too much, I simply wanted to find a quiet place to rest. But then something held me back, not the villa, not the view… but the cypress forest.
The cypress here is not just for decoration. It is a very real part of this place. The tall, straight, green trees stand silently but make the space feel… embraced.
In Ha Giang, I see the cypress like those very “stubborn” people - enduring the sun, enduring the cold, just growing up among the rocks and mist. There’s nothing flashy about it, but it makes one feel at ease when nearby.
At Balana, the cypress forest is interspersed among the villas, running along the mountainside, right next to the lake. There’s no feeling of construction, but rather like being in a real forest, just with a place to sleep.
What I like most is the atmosphere here.
Just taking a breath feels different. Not pungent, not harsh - just a very clean scent, slightly cool, slightly fragrant. Perhaps it comes from the leaves, from the wood, from the humidity of the mountains.
In the morning, sunlight filters through the canopy into very thin streaks.
In the afternoon, walking under the tall trees, you only hear the sound of the wind and the leaves.
And at night… it’s so quiet that I can hear my own thoughts clearly.
Nothing too special, but enough to make me slow down.
I realize that sometimes you don’t need to go far or do anything grand, just being in a space that feels “real” is enough for the body to know how to rest.
