🦪 Blood Cockles from Sông Roòn are the kind of dish that many people passing by easily overlook, but those who have sat down to eat there often remember it for a long time.
Most tourists coming to Quảng Trị or Quảng Bình will look for seafood first. But locals know that the Sông Roòn area is where the delicious blood cockles are famous.
The cockles here live in brackish water, so the meat is thick, fatty, and has a much clearer sweet taste.
🔥 The cockles just grilled smell extremely good.
Just opening the shell reveals that the liquid inside is still hot; biting into it allows you to feel the natural sweetness without the need for many seasonings. What I like the most is grilling with scallion oil or steaming with lemongrass because it still retains the original flavor of the cockles.
🌊 One time, sitting and eating at a riverside restaurant in the afternoon, the breeze was gentle and the kitchen smoke was wafting in front of me.
The sound of the grilled cockles sizzling was very pleasant to the ears. The space is not elaborate but has a comfortable feeling typical of Central Vietnam: close-knit, genuine, and the food is delicious in a rustic way.
😋 What I find interesting is that many restaurants here often run out early on weekends.
Local customers come to eat in large numbers, and most of them keep ordering more because the more you eat, the clearer the sweet taste becomes. This is also a type of dish that doesn't need too much dipping; just salt, pepper, and lime is enough.
📍 If you have the chance to pass by the Sông Roòn area, try stopping by a small riverside restaurant and order a plate of hot blood cockles.
Sometimes the dishes that people remember the most are not on the “must try” list online 🌿
