Thang Hen Lake belongs to Tra Linh commune, 30km from the center of Cao Bang city. The Thang Hen lake complex has 36 natural lakes, each separated by several dozen or several hundred meters. The lakes all have separate banks, however, they are all connected by underground caves. The names of the lakes are given in the local language such as: Thang Vat, Na Ma, Thang Loong, Thang Hoi… which have been around for hundreds of years. Among them, Thang Hen is the largest lake in the complex of 36 lakes. Thang Hen Lake is nearly 2,000 m long, 500 m wide, surrounded by old forest canopies mixed with rocky outcrops and has a depth of up to 40m. The name Thang Hen in the local language means “bee's tail,” because from above, looking down, visitors will associate the shape of the lake with the shape of a bee's tail. The lake has more than 100 different species of fish, both large and small, such as shrimp, prawn, red-finned carp, catfish…
In addition, the lake also has picturesque landscapes with trees stretching on steep cliffs, reflecting down into the green water.
This summer, come to Thang Hen to enjoy the cool atmosphere, admire the beautiful scenery of rivers and majestic mountains, paddle from one lake to another, taste the rich ethnic dishes made from the lake's products, and savor the delicious warm fragrant wine distilled from corn and leaf yeast using the traditional method of the Tay ethnic group.
