Khuổi Ky ancient stone village - a village associated with the stone worship beliefs of the Tay people.

The community-based tourism village of Khuổi Ky is located on provincial road 206 leading to Ngườm Ngao cave, just 2km from Bản Giốc waterfall. The village was formed around the years 1594 - 1677, when the Mạc dynasty fled from Thăng Long to Cao Bằng. Currently, there are 16 households of the Tày ethnic group living here; a notable point is 14 stone stilt houses built in the 16th century, which still retain their original architectural features.

From provincial road 206 turning into Khuổi Ky, visitors can feel the ancient and serene charm of the village thanks to the tiled roof bridge spanning the gentle Khuổi Ky stream. The road leading into the village is paved with stone. The fence separating the houses is intricately arranged with stones, having existed for hundreds of years. In an area of about 10,000m2, 16 stilt houses in Khuổi Ky are built closely together, creating a foundation for strong connections among families. The remaining area is mainly farmland of the locals.

The custom of building houses with stone originates from the stone worship beliefs of the Tày people. In their consciousness, the stone deity possesses natural powers that can protect and bring them a peaceful life. To build a stone stilt house takes about 2 - 3 years. The size of the house depends on the number of people in the family. Each house is usually 5 - 7m high, consisting of 2 floors. The lower floor has wooden pillars firmly erected on a stone foundation. There are also houses with stone walls enclosing both floors, with many wide windows around. The roof is covered with yin-yang tiles. With this architectural style, the stilt houses of the Tày people are always cool in summer and warm in winter.

Stone is an important material in the lives of the Tày people in Khuổi Ky. Stone is present everywhere, not only for building houses but also made into daily utensils such as grinding stones, stoves, or used for fences, water dams... Therefore, the stone village of Khuổi Ky contains a unique treasure of indigenous knowledge, creating its own distinct feature, which is simplicity and nostalgia as if time has stood still after the ups and downs of history...
