Giềng Waterfall Landscape Protection Area – “Green Treasure” In The Heart Of Bac Kan

Located about 10 – 15km from the center of Bac Kan city, the Giang Waterfall Landscape Protection Area (also known as Na Nooc forest) is one of the special-use forests with exceptional ecological value in the province. This area stretches across Xuat Hoa ward (Bac Kan city) and Tan Son commune (Cho Moi district), possessing a rich ecosystem of flora and fauna along with rare primary forests that are preserved almost intact.

The special-use forest rich in ecological value

The Giang Waterfall Landscape Protection Area has a total area of over 594ha, of which nearly 195ha is designated as a strict protection zone to preserve the natural ecosystem and rare genetic resources.

Thanks to favorable natural conditions, this place has become an ideal habitat for many endemic species of flora and fauna, contributing to making it one of the forests with high biodiversity in the Northeast region.

A rare population of ancient ironwood trees

The most notable feature of the Giang Waterfall Landscape Protection Area is the population of over 500 ancient ironwood trees with trunk diameters ranging from 20cm to over 100cm.

Hundreds of years old ironwood trees rise majestically amidst the mountains and forests, creating a magnificent landscape with significant conservation value. In addition, the forest also preserves many valuable plant species such as lychee, flowered wood, cycad, and many indigenous tree species typical of the limestone mountain forest ecosystem.

This is considered an invaluable biological resource that needs to be protected for future generations.

Not only does it have a rich plant system, but Giang Waterfall is also home to many rare wild animal species.

Surveys have recorded the presence of many species such as red-faced monkeys, large lorises, wild cats, cobras, along with many other birds and small animals. The presence of these species indicates that the ecosystem here still maintains a high level of naturalness and balance.
