Nam Xuân Lạc Species And Habitat Conservation Area – A Treasure Of Biodiversity In The Vast Chợ Đồn.

Located amidst the majestic limestone mountain ranges of Chợ Đồn district, the Nam Xuân Lạc Species and Habitat Conservation Area is considered one of the most valuable biodiversity forests in Bắc Kạn province. Not only does it possess a rare pristine ecosystem, but it is also an attractive destination for nature lovers, explorers, and eco-tourists.

The green lungs of the Việt Bắc region

The Nam Xuân Lạc Species and Habitat Conservation Area was established in 2004, located in the communes of Xuân Lạc, Đồng Lạc, and Bản Thi of Chợ Đồn district. According to the conservation plan, the protected area covers more than 4,155 hectares, surrounded by a buffer zone of over 16,000 hectares. This is one of the relatively intact natural forest areas in northeastern Vietnam.

The pristine forests stretching across the limestone mountain ranges create a majestic landscape, with a cool climate year-round and an ideal living environment for many rare plant and animal species.

A paradise for rare plant and animal species

Nam Xuân Lạc is regarded by scientists as one of the important biodiversity centers in the North. Here, more than 650 species of higher plants have been recorded, including many rare species such as ironwood, clam, resin, and slipper orchids, along with famous medicinal plants like codonopsis, goji berries, and blood grass.

The animal system is also incredibly rich with hundreds of species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Many species listed in the Vietnam Red Book and IUCN Red List, such as black monkeys, macaques, large lorises, small lorises, sun bears, and painted storks, are still being conserved here.

In particular, scientific studies have also recorded high diversity in amphibians, reptiles, and freshwater fish, highlighting the special biological value of this conservation area.

Centuries-old ironwood trees

One of the most special features of Nam Xuân Lạc is the population of precious trees on the limestone mountains. Thousands of ancient ironwood, clam, and resin trees are being strictly managed and protected. The number of marked and monitored precious trees alone has reached over 3,700, with ironwood being the most abundant.

Walking among the old forests with towering ancient trunks, visitors can clearly feel the pristine beauty of nature that not many places can still preserve.

Great potential for eco-tourism

Not only valuable for conservation, Nam Xuân Lạc is also evaluated as one of the leading areas with potential for eco-tourism development in Bắc Kạn. The pristine forests, limestone mountain systems, clear springs, and wild landscapes create favorable conditions for trekking activities, nature research, biodiversity exploration, and experiencing local culture.

In addition, this area also preserves many remnants of mining from the French colonial period, such as the ore cable system, tunnels, and stone paths through the forest, creating unique historical values amidst the majestic natural space.

A destination for nature lovers

Amidst modern life, the Nam Xuân Lạc Species and Habitat Conservation Area still retains its rare pristine beauty. This is a place where visitors can listen to the sounds of the forest birds, admire centuries-old trees, and feel the tranquility amidst the vast Việt Bắc.

If Ba Bể Lake is likened to the green gem of Bắc Kạn, then Nam Xuân Lạc is the precious ecological treasure of Chợ Đồn – a place that preserves unique natural values for today and future generations.
