Discover the picturesque Co La Waterfall in Cao Bang.

Where is Cò Là Waterfall?

Cò Là Waterfall is located in Ruộc village, Chí Viễn commune, Trùng Khánh district, Cao Bằng province – a village of the Tày ethnic group with many distinctive traditional cultural features. This is one of the attractive eco-tourism destinations in the border region of Cao Bằng, about 60 km from the city center.

Surrounding the waterfall are lush green mountains and forests, natural stone slopes, and a fresh atmosphere all year round.

Origin of the name Cò Là

Many people hearing the name for the first time often think it is associated with the stork species, but in fact, this name comes from a special type of tree that grows around the waterfall area – the cò là tree. This type of tree is quite familiar to the local people, especially the Tày community living in Ruộc village. That is why this uniquely named waterfall came into existence.

From the very first time stepping foot at Cò Là Waterfall, visitors are easily captivated by the poetic and peaceful beauty here. The water flows down from above through many natural stone layers, creating small clear ponds at the foot of the waterfall.

Seen from afar, the waterfall seems to be nestled among the majestic mountains and forests, embraced and sheltered by nature. The sound of flowing water mingles with the chirping of birds, creating a lively symphony of the mountains and forests.

Below each tier of the waterfall are small calm ponds like mirrors, reflecting the blue sky and the surrounding forest canopies, creating a scene that is both dreamy and tranquil.

Ideal times to visit

Cò Là Waterfall is beautiful all year round, with each season bringing its own charm.

From April to September – the high water season

From September to October – the rice harvest season

Ruộc village enters the golden season with vibrant ripe rice fields, making the landscape around the waterfall even more poetic and romantic, rivaling the famous rice seasons in the Northwest.

From October to March of the following year – the stream bathing season

At this time, the water flow is lower, the water is gentle, clear, and cool, making it very suitable for visitors to relax and soak in nature.
