Explore Du Già – The Land of Fairies in the Great Forest of Hà Giang

Du Già is one of the enchanting stops on the journey to explore the northernmost part of the country. Not noisy, not too crowded like many other famous landmarks, this place leaves a mark in the hearts of visitors with the pristine beauty of mountains and forests, peaceful villages, and a slow-paced life typical of the highlands.

If you are looking for a destination to "escape," breathe in the scent of new rice, listen to the sound of flowing streams, and feel the sincerity of the locals, Du Già will definitely be an ideal choice.

1. A brief introduction to Du Già Hà Giang

1.1 Where is Du Già located?

Du Già is a commune in Yên Minh district, about 70km from the center of Hà Giang city. Nestled among the rugged mountain ranges, Du Già impresses with its lush green valleys, clear streams, and the long-standing villages of the Tày, H'Mông, and Dao people.

Not possessing the fierce majestic beauty like many roads on the rocky plateau, Du Già moves visitors with its softness, gentleness, and poetic charm – like a "green oasis" amidst the gray stone region.

1.2 The ideal time to visit Du Già

Du Già is beautiful year-round, with each season bringing its own unique charm:

  • March – May: Cool weather, clear skies, suitable for trekking and exploring villages.
  • June – August: The flood season, streams and waterfalls are full, the scenery is fresh but be cautious of heavy rain.
  • September – October: The season of ripe golden rice on terraced fields – the ideal time for photography.
  • October – November: The season of buckwheat flowers blooming across the rocky plateau.

For a convenient and easy journey, the period from October to May of the following year is often the most chosen by many travelers.

2. Directions to Du Già

From Hà Giang city, you can travel by motorbike or personal car via two main routes:

Route 1: Through Mèo Vạc – Yên Minh

Head towards Mèo Vạc to Yên Minh for about 80km. This is a winding road with many sharp turns and steep passes – suitable for those who love conquering and have steady driving skills.

Route 2: National Highway 4C – Mậu Duệ – DT181

Follow National Highway 4C to Mậu Duệ and then turn onto provincial road 181. Although this route is a bit longer, it is easier to travel and the scenery along the way is very beautiful with corn fields, wildflowers, and the characteristic stone mountains of the plateau.

Du Già covers an area of about 67km² with many small hamlets of the Tày, H'Mông, and Dao ethnic groups. The stilt houses nestle against the mountains, lush vegetable gardens, small fish ponds, and winding dirt paths create an indescribably peaceful scene.

If you visit at the right time, you should check out the local market – where locals bring agricultural products, poultry, wild vegetables, and handicrafts to exchange and trade. Not only is it a trading place, but the market is also a cultural space where young men and women meet and chat in the vibrant colors of traditional costumes.
