Guide To Hunting The Milky Way In Tà Xùa – Tips For Capturing Stunning Photos Of The Milky Way.

Not only famous for its sea of clouds, Tà Xùa is also one of the most beautiful places to hunt for the Milky Way in the North. With an altitude of over 1,500m, a clear sky, low light pollution, and majestic mountain scenery, this place offers ideal conditions to observe and capture moments of a starry sky.

If you are planning to hunt for the Milky Way in Tà Xùa, here are some experiences compiled by Cáo after many trips.

The best time to hunt for the Milky Way

To clearly see the Milky Way, the most important factor is a clear sky and no moon.

Best shooting time: from 10 PM to around 2 AM.
It is advisable to choose days with a new moon or no moon, as moonlight will brighten the sky and make it difficult to see the Milky Way.
The best hunting season is usually from March to September, when the Milky Way is clearly visible in the night sky.

Before the trip, you should check the weather forecast and the moon calendar to increase your chances of success.

The common feature of these locations is low artificial light, wide visibility, and no mountain obstructions.

Khe Cải

This is one of the spots chosen by many photographers. The wide space and few lights make it easy to see the Milky Way with the naked eye when the weather is good.

Đỉnh Gió

With its high and open terrain, Đỉnh Gió is not only famous for cloud hunting but also an ideal place to capture the starry sky at night.

Area of houses on the village

Some areas located high in the village have very little light, creating favorable conditions to photograph the Milky Way combined with the characteristic wooden houses of the Hmong people, resulting in stunning photos full of Northwest essence.

What to prepare?

If using a camera, you should bring:

  • Ultra-wide lens.
  • Sturdy tripod.
  • Spare battery.
  • Remote shutter or timer.

If you only have a phone, iPhones and many Android models today have quite good night shooting modes. Although the quality may not match that of a camera, it is still sufficient to capture impressive images.

How to shoot with a phone

With iPhone:

  • Place the phone on a tripod or secure it firmly.
  • Use Night Mode.
  • Select an exposure time of about 30 seconds.
  • The model needs to stand still to avoid blurring.

A few notes when hunting for the Milky Way

  • Wear warm clothes as the night temperature in Tà Xùa is quite cold, even in summer.
  • Bring a flashlight or headlamp for safe movement.
  • Do not use flash or shine bright lights in areas where others are shooting.
  • Keep the environment clean and avoid noise at photo spots.

During the day, it is a paradise for cloud hunting, while at night, Tà Xùa takes on a completely different beauty. In the quiet mountains, looking up at the starry sky with the Milky Way stretching across the mountain peaks is an experience that anyone who loves nature should try at least once.

If you are lucky enough to encounter a clear night, with no moon and few clouds, you will understand why more and more people come to Tà Xùa not only to hunt for clouds but also to hunt for the Milky Way – one of the most beautiful and memorable moments in the Northwest mountains.
