Sông Cầu tourism – A journey to explore the river that originates from Bac Kan.

The river carries the soul of the Viet Bac region

The Cau River is one of the famous rivers in northern Vietnam, originating from the Phja Boóc mountain range in Bac Kan province before flowing through Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hanoi, and Hai Duong, then merging into the Thai Binh river system. Not only does it hold geographical value, but the Cau River is also closely linked to the history, culture, and life of many regions for hundreds of years.

For Bac Kan, which is considered the source region of the river, the Cau River is not only a natural flow but also a cultural symbol, closely associated with the life, memories, and identity of the local people.

The peaceful beauty in the heart of Bac Kan city

When flowing through Bac Kan city, the Cau River carries a gentle beauty with its winding waters amidst the green hills. On both banks of the river are residential areas, fields, villages, and community living spaces that create a picturesque yet familiar scene.

In recent years, the area along the Cau River has become a favorite destination for many locals and tourists to stroll, enjoy the scenery, and breathe in the fresh air of the Northeast mountains. Especially in the evening or when the city lights up, the scenery by the river becomes even more peaceful and captivating.

A new highlight of Bac Kan tourism

In the province's tourism development strategy, the Cau River is being oriented to become one of the important highlights to connect the cultural, natural, and tourism values of the locality. The theme “Cau River – Where the source converges” has been chosen for the Bac Kan Cultural – Tourism Week 2025 as a way to honor the role of the river in the cultural and historical life of this land.

Not only is it the source of a major river, but Bac Kan also hopes to exploit the cultural, historical, and scenic values associated with the Cau River to build new tourism products, creating a unique imprint for the locality.

The journey connecting heritage regions

The special feature of Cau River tourism lies in its regional connectivity. From Bac Kan, the river continues to flow through many localities rich in cultural traditions such as Thai Nguyen, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hanoi, and Hai Duong.

On this journey, the Cau River becomes a link between various unique cultural heritage forms such as Then singing, Lượn singing of the Tay – Nung people, Tắc Xình dance of the San Chay people, Quan Ho Bac Ninh, Cheo Bac Giang, Xẩm Hanoi, or Ca tru Hai Duong. This is seen as a great potential to develop cultural tourism routes along the river basin in the future.

Experiencing tourism along the Cau River

Currently, many experiential tourism models are being formed along the Cau River area in Bac Kan. Some community tourism points and riverside agricultural experiences have begun to attract visitors for sightseeing, relaxation, and exploring local life.

Visitors can experience activities such as visiting fruit orchards, tasting local specialties, learning about the culture of the Tay and Nung ethnic groups, or simply enjoying the peaceful space by the river amidst the forests of Viet Bac.

Distinctive cultural space by the river

The Cau River not only offers beautiful landscapes but also hosts many cultural activities, festivals, and tourism events in Bac Kan province.

During the Bac Kan Cultural – Tourism Week 2025, the riverside pedestrian street has become a large stage for artistic programs, intangible cultural heritage performances, and tourism promotion activities. The space by the river has contributed to creating fresh and attractive experiences for visitors coming to Bac Kan.

Potential for tourism development in the future

With the advantage of being the source of a famous river along with a rich natural ecosystem, the Cau River is expected to become one of the characteristic tourism products of Bac Kan.

The combination of natural landscapes, local culture, craft villages, community experiential activities, and a system of famous tourist spots such as Ba Be Lake, nature reserves, or ecological tourism routes will open up many development opportunities for Cau River tourism in the near future.
