Ban Co Peak - Where the sky and land of Da Nang meet in a moment

Amidst the youthful, vibrant life of Da Nang, there is a place that makes people speak softly, walk slower, and gaze for a long time. Ban Co Peak – the "roof" of the coastal city – is not just a destination to conquer, but a place to admire, reflect, and listen to oneself.

At a height that is not overwhelming, but enough to separate from the noisy streets, Ban Co Peak offers a very different Da Nang: open, spacious, and full of poetry.

1. Where is Ban Co Peak? Why is it called the “roof” of Da Nang?

Ban Co Peak is located on Son Tra Peninsula, about 9km from the city center, in Son Tra district. With an altitude of about 700m above sea level, it is one of the highest points that visitors can easily access in Da Nang.

The name "Ban Co" is associated with the folk legend of De Thich – the best chess player in heaven. It is said that during an unfinished chess game, captivated by the scenery of the mortal world, De Thich could not find the solution and had to stay here, leaving the celestial chessboard amidst the mountains and sky. The image of the statue of De Thich pondering beside the chessboard has become a unique symbol of this mountain peak.

2. The road to Ban Co Peak – Each route brings a different emotion

The journey to Ban Co Peak is not too difficult, but enough to bring a sense of conquest. From the center of Da Nang, you can choose one of two popular directions:

2.1 The Yet Kieu – Thuan Phuoc route

Starting from Thuan Phuoc Bridge, follow Yet Kieu Road towards the Region 3 Navy camp, then take the trail up to the peak. This route is easier, suitable for beginners or those with less steady driving skills, but the scenery along the way is quite dense.

2.2 The Hoang Sa – Linh Ung route

Travel along Hoang Sa coastal road, heading towards Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra, then continue along the mountain road to the peak. The road is steeper and has sharper turns, but the breathtaking scenery: blue sea on one side, ancient forest on the other, is well worth the experience.

3. What makes Ban Co Peak a place everyone wants to return to?

3.1 Sunset – When the city becomes a painting

The sunset at Ban Co Peak is the most anticipated moment. As the sun gradually sets, all of Da Nang is dyed in shades of orange – red – purple. The Dragon Bridge appears like a strong brushstroke, the coastline curves gently, and the city below suddenly becomes small and unusually peaceful.

3.2 Sunrise – Waking up with the sea and sky

If you have the strength to wake up early, try to catch the sunrise at Ban Co Peak once. When the city is still asleep, a thin mist covers the path, and the sun slowly rises from the distant sea, golden-orange light gradually spreading through the forests of Son Tra. The feeling of standing here, breathing in the morning sea breeze, is an unforgettable experience.

3.3 Admiring the sea from above – The quiet beauty

From the mountain peak, looking down at the sea, you will see each wave gently lapping the shore, the blue of the water blending with the green of the forest, and white clouds drifting lazily. No noise, no hustle – just a very gentle Da Nang.

3.4 A panoramic view of the city in sight

Standing level with the clouds, you can capture the Han River, the bridges, the coastal residential areas, and the modern life moving in the distance. At each moment of the day, the city reveals a different appearance – sometimes vibrant, sometimes serene.

4. Small but memorable experiences

  • Taking photos with the statue of De Thich beside the celestial chessboard
  • Sitting at a small café on the mountain road, sipping coffee, and watching the clouds drift
  • Enjoying simple grilled dishes (duck, rabbit, goose…) amidst the mountain breeze

Ban Co Peak is not a place to rush to check-in and leave. It is a place to stand still, to see the city you love from above, to realize that amidst modernity and hustle, Da Nang still has very beautiful quiet moments.

If you have the chance to visit the coastal city, take a morning or a sunset to go to Ban Co Peak. You don’t need to do much – just look – and let the sky and land of Da Nang tell their own story.
